Well, eventually they needed another brilliant detective, they only had three after all. So they sent me into a well with my partner.

And... And then what, Fukuda?

Well, I don't like being in id wells. I don't like being Anaido. He doesn't have a hole in his head. So I tampered with the evidence. I trapped Sakaido and myself in the well. I thought he'd be angry enough to kill me.

... Why did you come here? What did you want out of all of this?

Mm. I wanted the power to help people for real... Or really, I just wanted someone who could see me as whole, even though I'm not. Maybe that means them being broken the same as me. I don't know.

[housewolf]

[He stares up at the ceiling for a moment, his expression goes all complicated, before settling on a tired, pained smile.

And then he offers his hand for Fukuda to take, once again.]

... I wish you could've really helped people.

[holeful]

[Fukuda shifts where he's sitting so he can take Omi's hand.]

Well, two people survived. And one of them, the hole helped him become close to his important person.

[Here they are. Holding hands in a jail cell.]

Most people died.

[Just looking down at Omi's hand holding his.]

I don't know. I just felt like I had to. The same as when I drilled my own head.

I don't either. But I'm glad I did, even if it wasn't my plan. I got to live for three years free from numbers. And I got to meet so many people here.

Miss Hondomachi. She was the detective that caught me. And the one who showed me what I really wanted to see. She forced my hand. She drilled the hole herself, the same as me.

And... is she alive?

She is. She's a Brilliant Detective now too. She's an incredible woman.

Ah... Well, she killed the other person who survived, I heard. Before he could kill her. He and his partner were The Gravedigger, after all.

She's brave and devoted to justice. But there's something off about her. Something missing. That's why she can be a Brilliant Detective. That's why I like her.
